Republishing and Translating Mitrany
One of the priorities of the Center is the republication of Mitrany’s works. Due to a combination of circumstances (most of them related to political and ideological reasons that made Mitrany persona non grata in the Soviet Bloc, including Romania, for most of the second half of the 20th century), a paradoxical situation has been created: David Mitrany is not sufficiently well known in Romania, as a scholar of such a stature and significance should be, while his works are not accessible to the Romanian public, in Romanian. To complicate things even more, Mitrany’s works haven’t even being republished in English after him passing away, not to speak of the fact that the collection of his completed (or selected) works has never been edited and published.
One of the main objectives of the Center is to remedy this situation. Organizing and starting the translation of Mitrany’s works into Romanian, is a major priority of the Center. With this end in view, a partnership with the Babes-Bolyai University Press has been created. Another major objective on this line is to create the infrastructure for and to support the publication of the collection of Mitrany’s works, as a scholarly edition set, with a Western publishing house.
Currently the following volumes are part of the Babes-Bolyai University Press translation and publications plans for the next couple of years:
- ● The Land and the Peasant in Romania: the War and Agrarian Reform, 1917-1921
- ● Marx against the Peasant: a Study in Social Dogmatism
- ● The Functional Theory of Politics
- ● A Working Peace System
- ● The Prospect of European Integration: Federal or Functional
- ● Romania, her History and Politics
- ● Greater Romania: a Study in National Ideals
